Spinning Streak is this week’s Shop of the Week. As you can tell from the name Spinning specialises in hand spun, and hand dyed wool, and woollen items. She spins and dyes using both professional dyes and natural plant colours too. Here’s a selection of lovely things from her shop.

This is a gorgeous pink, blue and purple hand painted new wool skein.

There are more of Spinning’s lovely yarns and handmade goodies from gloves and scarves to bags and tea cosies, in her shop here, and you can read an interview with Spinning on the Craft Britannia blog here.

On the Craft Britannia team we were having a chat about yarn bombing. Since I moved to Pompey I’ve seen quite a few yarn bombs, so this morning I went on a treasure hunt. This is what I found.

The first one I spotted, a crochet number on Goldsmith Avenue.

Someone’s worked hard to make this tree cosy in Bransbury Park.

They did the lamp post too…

and the tree next to the Arts Cafe. Good work knitters!

Put your bike somewhere warm, with added buttons, outside Eastney health centre

Also spotted these little ones on Albert Road.

Google research tells me this was the site of a yarn-bomb, off Albert Road, but no longer.

I think the yarn bombs are great, and it proves people love their community and want to take care of it. Have you spotted any yarn bombs in your area? I’d love to hear about them.

UPDATE: If you’re inspired check out the yarn on Etsy, and start with this treasury list, made by the lovely Stupidcats, which includes a beautiful selection of warm tones: Yarn Bomb Treasury

UPDATE 2 (7 March) Southsea you have a rival… Saltburn yarn bombed its pier – check it out here
