I went all the way to Switzerland for this post. There is a very famous woodcarver in the Berner Oberland. If you’re involved in Guiding or Scouting I’m pretty sure you’ve seen his family’s work.


His name is Robert Trummer and he lives near Adelboden, and he and his family are very talented woodcarvers.

They do big things like bears….Image

and small things, like woggles….ImageImage

And they can personalise items with your name, or a date. Robert is so practiced at writing with the pyrography pen he doesn’t need to sketch in a draft before. And check the angle on my name above. Who needs a ruler?  That’s a real skill.

We visited his shop where he has a small workbench, and you can see the progression of items being carved like the cows at the front.


There’s plenty of opportunity for woodcarving and craft in Switzerland with traditional mountain chalets made of wood.
